Real Wedding: Brooke & Rob’s Seaside Wedding

Real Wedding: Brooke & Rob’s Seaside Wedding:
This summer I had the pleasure of attending a lovely wedding in Jamestown, Rhode Island.  Our friends Rob and Brooke threw a classic seaside wedding with lots of nautical DIY touches.
Let me set the scene…You drive up a long dirt driveway not really knowing where you might end up, though you know you are on an island so an ocean view can’t be far away.  You pull up to a large modern building which is actually an art studio and still you can’t see the ocean but you know it must be close.  As soon as you step around the building, there it is.  A long sloping hill down to the water with a spectacular view looking back to Newport across Narragansett Bay with sailboats floating by just a few hundred feet from the ceremony site.  Brooke dazzled in a strapless mermaid gown and her maids wore navy dresses and pink heels.  We moved into a tent for the reception and were treated to some wonderful speeches and a clam bake dinner, just what you’d expect form these native Rhode Islanders.
Brooke had lots of personal DIY touches that followed her navy nautical theme.  Her printed napkins featured the couple’s new shared last name and complimented the blue and white striped paper straws set out on the bar.  She had a framed photo from their engagement shoot for guests to sign in lieu of a traditional guest book.  The photo booth was definitely a hit with the guests, along with the candy bar that appeared mid way through the reception!  Brooke and Rob also have an adorable (and well-behaved) chocolate lab who took part in the ceremony, so the favors must have been his idea, cookies made to look just like him were set at each place setting!
Brooke later changed into a short whte dress and blue sneakers and hit the dance floor with her bridesmaids.
All this was captured beautifully by the groom’s sister, Kristyn, who is also a wedding photographer.  What a fun wedding!
Congratulations Rob and Brooke!

Modern Monogram

Modern Monogram:
A monogram is defined as “a design or mark consisting of two or more letters intertwined.” How romantic! The monogram is a traditional element rooted in history and at the same time it celebrates your future together as a married couple.  You may immediately picture traditional script lettering, but today’s monograms can be designed to suit your own style.  Use a traditional 3-letter monogram with your new last name as the larger center letter, or go casual by using just the letters of each of your first names.  A monogram is such a versatile design element that it can be incorporated into any wedding decor.  Give it a vintage romantic feel or make it sleek and modern.
Monogram your napkins, favors, menu card and don’t forget your thank-you notes.
What better way to celebrate your new marriage than by showing off your new shared monogram!

Revisiting the Consumer Decision Journey

Revisiting the Consumer Decision Journey:
Do you have a good understanding of your consumer’s decision journey toward brand engagement? Understanding consumer behavior will help you know where you need to put your brand’s resources.
In the Harvard Business Review article, Branding in the Digital Age: You’re Spending Your Money in All the Wrong Places, David Edelman, co-leader of McKinsey & Company’s Global Digital Marketing Strategy practice, shared insight into the consumer decision journey. “Consumers still want a clear brand promise and offerings they value. What has changed is when—at what touch points—they are most open to influence, and how you can interact with them at those points. Marketers have long used the famous funnel metaphor to think about touch points: Consumers would start at the wide end of the funnel with many brands in mind and narrow them down to a final choice. In the June 2009 issue of McKinsey Quarterly, my colleague David Court and three coauthors introduced a more nuanced view of how consumers engage with brands: the consumer decision journey. The new consumer decision journey is–Consider, Evaluate, Purchase, Enjoy, Advocate.”
This video shares more of David Edelman and McKinsey & Company’s high-level insights into the consumer decision journey.
Here are five steps to defining your consumer decision journey:
1. Engage customers via online surveys, in-store interviews, focus groups, one-on-one interviews or any number of other research methodologies in order to hear from them.
2. Use Google analytics for baseline site data on in-bound navigation, visitor click streams throughout the site and many other important key performance indicators.
3. Dig into social media platforms to monitor and listen to the conversations about customer interactions with your brand.
4. Step into the shoes of one your customers and experience your brand—and your competitors’ brands—from their perspective.
5. Define patterns among and within the data.
To know more about the different points along your customer’s decision journey, all you have to do is listen; many of your customers are willing to share their story. With answers and insights from your consumers, you’re now ready to map out a visual platform outlining your brand’s consumer decision journey.

7 Essential Products to Beat the Heat

7 Essential Products to Beat the Heat:
Getting married in the heat this summer? You are going to need these! While we all cross our fingers for clear skies and bright sunshine on our wedding day, that kind of weather can also have a downside.  Can you say drippy make-up and frizzy hair? Here’s a list of our favorite products to help you enjoy the sun and beat the heat.
Supergoop! City Sunscreen Serum – If your wedding is going to be outdoors, you’ll inevitably be spending time in the sun so sunscreen is essential. You don’t wan’t to look down at the end of the evening and realize you’re red as a lobster! This sunscreen is great because the serum formula means it is light and doesn’t feel greasy.  As well as being fragrance-free, the mattifying formula keeps you looking luminous, not shiny!
MAC Hey, Sailor! Pro Longwear Bronzing Powder –  Don’t let the sparkly look of this bronzing powder scare you away.  It has a totally natural finish that gives you the perfect sun-kissed look. Plus, it’s long-wearing formula means you won’t have to re-apply on your big day.
Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray – We can’t necessarily have our hair dresser on standby all night, so this is the next best thing.  If your hair starts to fall flat, a few spritzes of this will bring your style back to life while absorbing any oil.
Sephora Collection Blotting Papers – A quick and easy way to touch up, these blotting papers absorb oil and will definitely fit in your wedding day clutch.
Avene Thermal Spring Water – If the heat starts to get the best of you, cool down and refresh with this hydrating spray.
Revlon Beyond Natural False Eyelashes – Ok, so these aren’t really necessary to help you beat the heat…but they will add instant glamour to your wedding day look.
Dior Addict Lip Polish – This is some really amazing lip gloss! It’s got a subtle color and ultra shine and will last longer than any other gloss you’ve tried before.  Perfect to keep you smiling all evening long.

Color Trend: Neutral Hues

Color Trend: Neutral Hues:
While bright colors will always be a popular choice for weddings, lately we’re loving the idea of using neutral hues instead.  Gold, taupe, ivory and and even a subtle pink.  Neutrals can evoke a vintage glamour and a timeless elegance. Just picture soft pinks and creams with a hint of silver glinting in soft candle light. How romantic!
Will you be going neutral on your wedding day?

A Black & White Wedding

A Black & White Wedding:
Black and White is a classic and elegant color combination that will never go out of style.  It’s also so versatile.  Make it sleek and modern or go for ’20s Hollywood glamour. Either way, black and white lends itself to a stylish wedding.  Picture glowing candlelight with gold or silver accents, a vintage black and white damask pattern, or modern black and white invitations.  And if you happen to be having a spring wedding, the perfect flower is the anemone with its white petals and black center.  There are also lots of great favors and embellishments to complete the perfect black and white wedding theme.  How are you using black and white in your wedding?

My Fair Wedding

My Fair Wedding:
One of my guilty pleasures is definitely reality TV, especially any wedding-related shows.  A favorite would have to be My Fair Wedding with David Tutera, have you seen it? He takes a bride’s basic wedding idea and turns it into a dream come true.  It’s always an over-the-top reveal when the couple sees their decorated wedding venue.  They are all stunning, but I had to share this one because of the way they used paper lanterns.  There were over 2000 purple paper lanterns in several sizes hung from the ceiling of the reception venue! Amazing! Using paper lanterns is the perfect inexpensive way to decorate a large space, especially with the range or colors and styles that are available.  Take a look at the video here.  And pick out paper lanterns for your own wedding here!

Confetti

Confetti:
Confetti is not just for kids’ birthday parties anymore! It’s actually becoming a popular wedding trend.  Done right, it is a pretty, whimsical, and colorful theme!  Take a look at all the ways you can use it throughout your own wedding. Gold and silver confetti make an elegant invitation.  Colorful confetti takes a white cake to a whole new level.  How about crystal confetti to adorn your tabletops? Or rose petal confetti to be tossed as you walk down the aisle as husband and wife!
